Zimfest 2012
A First! Zimfest 2012 Comes to the Inland Empire, August 2-5. Zimfest 2012, the 21 year old Zimbabwean Music Festival, will come to the Inland Empire for the first time, August 2-5, in Moscow, ID. It will be held on the University of Idaho campus sponsored, in part, by the International Programs Office, the Dance Program and the Lionel Hampton School of Music. Zimfest is the largest annual gathering in North America of students, performers, and fans celebrating Zimbabwean music and culture. Zimfest features musicians and teachers from Zimbabwe, Zimbabwean musicians living in the United States and Canada, and a dynamic group of excellent North American performers and musicians. Each year Zimfest offers a wide selection of activities. These include free afternoon concerts in the park and reasonably-priced evening concerts followed by a late-night mbira gathering. The Zimbabwean Marketplace will be open daily and a traditional Zimbabwean meal will be available on Sunday, August 5th. The days will be filled with a wide selection of workshops in marimba, mbira, drumming, guitar, dance, singing, hosho and games. Specific workshops for children, teen marimba workshops and music educator workshops also will be available.
