The Barber of Seville
The Comic Opera Guild performs Rossini's great comic opera, The Barber of Seville, in English, Feb. 25-27, 2016 in Ann Arbor's historic Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre.
The opera will be sung in an original English version by Thomas Petiet. The Guild performs all of its shows in English, believing that opera, especially comic opera, should be immediately understandable to modern audiences.
The show will subsequently tour to the Ford Performing Arts Center in Dearborn, Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor and Spring Arbor University in Spring Arbor.
Directed by Mitchell Gillett and Conducted by Nada Radakovich, the company features an exceptional all-Michigan cast of singers, supported by chorus and orchestra.
The show runs just over two hours and will be highly entertaining for all ages.
The Comic Opera Guild, in its 42nd season, is unique in its repertory and outreach. It is the only company to tour shows with complete cast, sets and orchestra, and has performed in 38 communities in Michigan and Ohio. The company has created a large archive of unique recordings of classic American musicals, and its English versions of European operas and operettas have been performed by companies throughout the English speaking world.
