A Cabaret Night featuring the all-acoustic Gonzalo Bergara Quartet playing a modern variant of 1930's Django Reinhardt-inspired Gypsy jazz. Composer and lead guitarist Bergara mixes cascades of arpeggios with the sounds of Paris and his native Argentina. He is supported by an ace clarinetist and a honed rhythm section. Bergara is fiery and focused, while the hard-swinging band takes the audience for a ride.
Bergara began playing professionally at age 16 in Buenos Aires. By 17 he was already fronting his own blues trio on national television. He arrived in America in the year 2000 and since then has performed and recorded with hundreds of artists.
Twice he was a finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition 2010 in the Latin and World categories, was Djangofest Artist of the Year in 2009, Guitar Player Magazine Editor's Pick in 2008 and Los Angeles Magazine's 2007 Best Jazz Band in Los Angeles.
Django Reinhardt and the Hot Club of France, traditional jazz and hints of his native Buenos Aires heavily influence Bergara's music. He has performed in Europe, South America and the U.S. in concerts and festivals including The Montreal Jazz Festival, Django Reinhardt Fest in Germany and Django Fests throughout the U.S. and more.
The Gonzalo Bergara Quartet includes Gonzalo Bergara on lead acoustic guitar, Jeffrey Radaich on rhythm guitar, Rob Hardt on clarinet and tenor saxophone, and Brian Netzley on upright bass.
