Metro Chamber Orchestra presents The Glory Of Venice
The Metro Chamber Orchestra brings its Ninth Season to a close on Saturday, May 19th 2012 at 8 PM. The beautiful sanctuary of St Ann and the Holy Trinity is the backdrop for a program dedicated to the city of Venice. Maestro Philip Nuzzo leads the MCO in Salieri's delightful sinfonia "Venizia". Cellist Kirsten Jerme brings her special elegance to Offenbach's rarely heard Les Larmes de Jacqueline. Mozart's Piano Concerto in F major (K459) is the perfect vehicle to display the world renowned talent of Sylvia Kahan. As a pianist, Sylvia Kahan has performed as concerto soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician in all of New York City's major concert halls and throughout North America and Europe. Her recitals have been broadcast on WQXR, WNYC, and National Public Radio.
Aside from her prodigious performance resume Ms. Kahan has written Music's Modern Muse: A Life of Winnaretta Singer, Princesse de Poligna and is a frequent contributor to many musical periodicals. She is a lecturer for both the Metropolitan Opera and the New York City Opera. The program and the MCO's Ninth season conclude with Vivaldi's transcendent setting of the "Gloria" Considered the finest Baroque setting of this text Maestro Nuzzo is joined by the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music Chorale. A dynamic chorus with high musical standards, the Conservatory Chorale explores and performs a rich variety of musical styles, a cappella and with orchestra, from the Renaissance to the present day. The Brooklyn Conservatory Chorale, which began in its present form in September 2006, continues a more than twenty-year-old tradition of choral music at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music Under the direction of Nelly Vuksic, the Chorale has been developing an increasingly challenging repertoire encompassing music from the Renaissance to the present, including premieres of new works as well as major works for chorus and orchestra.
Joining the MCO and BCM Chorale will be mezzo soprano Melissa Block as soloist.
A tribute to a great musical city is a fitting way to end this "Glorious" season and prepare for the very special Tenth Anniversary Season of the Metro Chamber Orchestra beginning November 2012.
