Film Arts Fest-One Bright Shining Moment
Rafael Film Center San Rafael, CA
Part of the Mother Jones Agitators and Instigator series One Bright Shining Moment: The Forgotten Summer of George McGovern Dir. Stephen Vittoria In 1972 George McGovern ran for president of the United States on a platform of fairness, compassion, and an end to the war in Vietnam. This riveting documentary retraces that doomed campaign, and deftly illustrates how that moment in history set the stage for our current political state. Thoughtful interviews of historians and activists, as well as firsthand accounts from McGovern himself provide brilliant context, and the commentators include Gore Vidal, Gloria Steinem, Warren Beatty, Dick Gregory, Howard Zinn and many more. In addition to a lovely original score and traditional folk ballads, there is music by Leon Russell, Bob Dylan, Robbie Robertson, and Elvis Costello. Amy Goodman, host of Democracy Now! narrates. 2005 125m
