The 2016 Wisconsin Local Food Summit

The Wisconsin Local Food Network (WLFN) will present the 10th annual, Wisconsin Local Food Summit on January 14-15, 2016 at the Blue Harbor Resort in Sheboygan, WI.
Join us this January as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Wisconsin Local Food Summit. Come to learn about the components of Local Food System Development with two days of breakout sessions and workshops, Sheboygan-based farm and facility tours, facilitated networking opportunities, local food, and more! This wonderful and unique opportunity is an event that you won't want to miss! Attendees can expect to gather with a diverse group of local food advocates to exchange information, strengthen regional alliances, gain practical strategies and best practices that address issues within local food system development.

Pre-Summit Events:
Pre-Summit events will begin on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 with Open Houses in Sheboygan from 3:00pm-5:00pm. Visit Nourish (http://www.nourishfarms.org/) or Meals on Wheels (http://www.freshmealsonwheels.org/), or Goodside Grocery (http://goodsidegrocery.com/) during this time. Then, join WLFN as it partners with the Lakeshore Culinary Institute and the Sea Grant Foundation for a "Taste" of Wisconsin - free to Summit Attendees. Sound Interesting? Summit:
The official Summit will begin at 7:30 am on Thursday, January 14th, 2016, with a morning welcome and networking opportunity. After that, the breakout sessions and content portion of the main Summit will begin. At 4:30, a reception with a book signing with Winona will take place before an evening dine-around on town. Friday morning, the Summit will commence with another day of breakout sessions. Winona will be a lunch- time Keynote on Friday, and our closing panel activity will end at 4:30. Tours:
The 2016 Summit will offer farm / facility tours to Sheboygan businesses that focus on locally sourced food. These tours will take place during the Summit itself, as an option for morning breakout sessions on both Thursday and Friday. There are limited spots available for these tours! If you are interested, buy your early bird ticket now and select the Tour ticket that you are interested in to save your seat on the bus!
**Tour #1 Thursday**
Historic Orchard B&B, Aquaponics and Sprouts for man and beast.
Dating to 1848 Lake Orchard Farm is a sixth generation homestead, orchard, dairy and now emerging aquaponics farm. Eco tourism includes B&B and event hosting.
Artesian Fresh is a micro green enterprise of the Lensmire family. Tour the production that provides feed for the dairy herd as well as specialty sprouts for restaurant and market.
**Tour #2 Friday**
Plymouth High school Ag Center and Lakeshore Culinary Institute.
Competed in 2015 the New Plymouth HS agriculture and Life Sciences center offers a diverse array agricultural and related courses. We will visit the new center in Plymouth and then head to
Lakeshore Culinary Institute to meet with the next generation of chefs. At Lakeshore, we will learn about the Youth Apprenticeship Program which allows high school students the opportunity to explore future careers while getting paid.
