An Evening with J2J
Flutist Julie Johnson and cellist Jacqueline Ultan, who comprise the eclectic duo J2J, will present an evening of original arrangements and compositions, including a premiere of their new pieces, in a live concert on December 17 and 18 in Antonello Hall at MacPhail Center for Music. The new work is funded by 2015 Commissioning Grants awarded to both artists by MacPhail. Since forming as an official duo in 2010, J2J has developed a repertoire that reflects their broad musical interests and features their individual & collective versatility. Their classical training, coupled with their desire to "play outside the box," enables them to perform music from Bach to their own unique arrangements of world folk music (Irish, Argentinian, Russian, Ukrainian) and jazz standards, as well as providing a context in which to feature their own original compositions. The new pieces will feature cello with effects pedals, flute, bass flute, and live looping pedals.
