The Mägi Ensemble is excited to release their first CD "Baltic Sounds" with a wonderful afternoon of music and light appetizers. Along with some of the pieces from the CD, they will perform new works by Lithuanian composer Vytautas Miškinis, Latvian-American composer Dace Aperans and many others.

The CDs will be available for purchase at the event for $15 along with other Mägi Ensemble merchandise.

Featuring Chelsea Moe, Megan Gardner, Ailisa Newhall, Tess Altiveros, Claire Machado, Sarah Kolat, Aimee Ketola, Julie Parsons, Stacy Justino, Jessica Martin, Monica Armstrong, Jennifer Bertelsen, Margaret Boeckman. Heather MacLaughlin Garbes, Founder and Artistic Director and Peter Garbes, Managing Director.

Named for the "First Lady of Estonian Music", Ester Mägi, the core ensemble is a women's ensemble of twelve talented singers. The Mägi Ensemble performs and records compositions from the Baltic region that are rarely heard outside of that area and is an ambassador of the power of music in inter-cultural dialogue and identity.

The Mägi Ensemble's focus on Baltic music stems from the strong relationship between the University of Washington choral department and the Baltic studies program of the Scandinavian department. This relationship helped establish the UW Baltic Choral Library, the first of its kind in the United States. During her time at the UW, Heather MacLaughlin Garbes was asked to help organize this collection which inspired her great interest in not only Baltic choral music, but also in the use of music in political identity. The UW Baltic Choral Library continues to grow and develop and now has more than 1000 pieces in the collection.

The Mägi Ensemble was honored to participate in the 2013 Latvian National Song Festival in addition to many community events, including Seattle Mariners games and Baltic/Scandinavian concerts and celebrations. The ensemble is an Affiliated Artist and a Resident Ensemble of Thomsen Chapel at St. Mark's Cathedral.
