White Rabbit, Red Rabbit Performed by Velina Brown
White Rabbit, Red Rabbit (2009, San Francisco Premiere) By Nassim Soleimanpour (Iran)
Iranian playwright, director and set designer Nassim Soleimanpour declined to serve in his country's armed forces. In return, the Iranian government denied Mr. Soleimanpour's request for a passport.
Unable to leave Iran, Mr. Soleimanpour has instead sent his script to SFIAF to be read by another actor. His arresting and allegorical work, White Rabbit,Red Rabbit, dissects the experience of a whole generation in a wild, utterly original play. Soleimanpour turns his isolation to his own advantage with the play (written in English) which requires no director, no set, and a different actor for every performance.
Velina Brown is an award winning actress, singer/songwriter, and director whose artistic home for the past 18 years has been with the San Francisco Mime Troupe. In addition you may have seen her at the American Conservatory Theatre, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, The Magic Theatre, TheatreWorks, Shotgun Players, SF Playhouse, and The Denver Theatre Center among many others.
