Gin is a spirit which derives its predominant flavor from juniper berries (Juniperus communis). From its earliest beginnings in the Middle Ages, gin has evolved over the course of a millennium from a humble patent medicine to an object of commerce in the spirits industry. Today, the gin category remains firmly established as one of the most popular and widely distributed range of spirits on the planet, and is represented by products of various origins, styles, and flavor profiles that all revolve around juniper as a common theme.

Drinking Lesson to feature:

Bombay/Bombay sapphire: Launched in 1987 i'ts name originates from the gin's popularity in India during the British Raj. The flavouring of the drink comes from a recipe of ten ingredients: almond, lemon peel, liquorice, juniper berries, orris root, angelica, coriander, cassia, cubeb, and grains of paradise.

Oxley: Oxley is a newer gin that launched in 2009. It's made through "cold distillation." The theory is that the high temperatures used in traditional gin distillation to boil alcohol (to separate it from water and the infused botanicals in the still) can impart 'cooked' notes or lose desirable flavors in gin.

Hendricks: A brand of gin produced by William Grant & Sons in Girvan, Scotland. In addition to the traditional juniper infusion, Hendrick's uses Bulgarian rose and cucumber to add flavor. Hendrick's uses a blend of spirits produced from a Carter-Head Still (constructed in 1948), of which there are only a small number in the world.

Guests can expect an animated 1  hour lesson in the preparation and history of Gin cocktails from leading bartenders, drink historians and quality distillers, plus a few bites from the Hunt Club kitchen. Sessions at 6pm or 8pm and limited to 12 seats.
