David Power
When Martin Hayes was picking from the cream of the crop of Irish musicians for the Masters of Tradition tour, whose stops included Santa Cruz, as the uilleann piper he selected David Power.
An outpouring of plaudits from the press included the Irish Times, 'Power brings a breathtaking freshness in his fluid, fluent playing, as light as a feather' & the New York Times, 'The open wail of uilleann pipes played by Power beautifully establishes the central opposition of inner pain and public fantasy.'
The recent release of David's third solo CD, 'the eighteen Moloney,' had the Irish Times rave, 'The sheer breadth of expression captured by Waterford piper Power will be enough to stop many listeners in their tracks. The title is a reference to an uilleann pipes chanter that Power received as a gift, made by Thomas & Andrew Moloney before the Famine.
The chanter's picaresque journey through the playing fingers of Willie Clancy & Leo Rowsome & many others fuels Power's attentive & authoritative handling.'
Also adept on whistles & fiddle & a superb storyteller with winning wit, this will make for an enormously entertaining evening.
