Featuring Works By: Benny Fung Angelina Lin Kristina Simmons Amy VanKirk
Presented by The University of Arizona's renowned School of Dance, The Point of Continuum: A Series of 4 MFA Thesis Projects, is a collective dance concert featuring the works of graduate choreographers in residency: Benny Fung, Angelina Lin, Kristina Simmons, and Amy VanKirk.
Having shared two years together, the choreographers invite the audience to experience the diversity of perspectives that have come forth.
Kristina Simmons has been inspired by having a daughter during graduate school to create her thesis project entitled, Message for Lyida. Through choreography, Simmons explores the memories and emotions of her experience in becoming a mother. Presented in 5 sections that are meant to guide, teach and inspire her daughter Lydia, her work addresses the universal themes of life, hope for the future, love, and the strength of family ties.
Presented in seven thematic sections that are inspired by and explore different moods and emotions of human life, White Garden presents a different perspective. Inspired by the feelings of tension, love, hate, pain, death, and the energy of emancipation, choreographer Benny Fung asserts that his "idea of a garden doesn't always mean pretty or beautiful, but also experimental, full of life affection."
The Shape of Time is a study on the passage of time. Set to the haunting scores of Mozart and Bach, burgeoning choreographer Angelina Lin invites viewers to consider the passing of time as the only constant in life.
Photos may fade, but memories live on. Drawing from her personal heritage, choreographer Amy Vankirk invites audiences to take a glimpse of an era gone but never forgotten. The premiere of Keeper of the Memories, is a series of works weaving together the personal stories of those that lived through WWII: the soldier, the pinup, the wife, the American.
