SHOWROOM SHOWS The Birthday Party by Harold Pinter Directed John Abramson Gala: June 24, 2005 (6:30pm)
Synopsis: Stanley Webber is the only lodger in Meg and Petey Boles' seaside boarding house. One morning, while Meg and Stanley are bantering over breakfast, she mentions that two visitors are coming to stay for the night. Stanley grows apprehensive, sensing imminent danger. His fears are confirmed when Goldberg and his partner McCann arrive. Meg announces that it's Stanley's birthday, and even though Stanley insists it is not, Goldberg demands a celebration. After a few glasses of whiskey and a game of blind man's bluff, Stanley's birthday party turns into a nightmare. Goldberg and McCann drag Stanley off to an upstairs room, and by morning they've rendered him a mute!
LOWER LEVEL SHOWS: Stones in His Pockets by Marie Jones Directed by Jerry Manning SHOWING WEEKENDS(7:30pm)
Synopsis: QUIET ON THE SET! In this tongue-in-cheek comedy two actors portray over 13 characters amidst a Hollywood film production that overruns a "picturesque" Irish village. It's not the first film to be shot there. In fact one of the locals is a surviving extra who appeared in The Quiet Man. Some villagers are so blase about the production that they laugh at the accent of the leading lady played by an American movie star and burst into hysterics during scenes depicting a bogus interpretation of Anglo-Irish history. They aren't so cavalier when they discover a local teenager broken by an American dream that doesn't apply to him. Now that's a wrap for the extras!
Note: No late seating. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before curtain.
