Classes- MASTERS AT THE MAT
MASTERS AT THE MAT We've got some great classes for you creatively curious adults! Join us this November when our incredible visiting performing artists share with you their unique approach to creating theatre. This is your chance to spend time with a master teacher from around the country and discover the tools and techniques that bring original theater to life.
Saturday, November 7th ~ 1pm to 3pm CLOWN: AN INVITATION TO PLAY Join one of America's foremost clowns and movement artists, Ronlin Foreman, in this hands on workshop where you are invited to play dangerously with laughter, joyously with terror and authentically with the ensemble. Explorations in comic duos and trios examine vaudeville and comic characters, the comic turn, physical comedy and the basis of "the gag". Red nose clown exercises reveal the possibilities of paradox, metaphor, the deep space of the "stage" and it's flux in relationship with the audience. Flights into regions of the surreal and the absurd leave open a full range of emotional engagement where you'll discover the difference between playing a comic character and evoking a personal clown.
Saturday, November 14th~ Noon to 3pm David Carl ~ CREATING YOUR DREAM ROLE During this workshop you'll spend 3 hours with other people who are all creating a character that truly sets them free. You will be playing with the idea that you have always wanted to do, but thought perhaps it wastoo crazy, too easy, too fun, too silly, too hard, too scary, too personal, too cartoony, too political, too raunchy, too clean, too serious, or too funny to be a "really good thing to spend your time on"! Or maybe you've spent years with this character and just want to dig deeper or build something new with him, her or it. In any case, you'll be exploring a character that gives you permission to play exactly the way you have always wanted to play: and hopefully that sets you free in everything else you do.
Whatever the idea islet it be the one that puts a big ole smile on your face when you think about iteven on your worst day. Playing Gary Busey has done that for me, and my goal is to share that joy with you. We'll jump right into the deep end and start exploring these characters with a wide variety of exercises, designed to find to new ways of looking at the character, so that they are truly three-dimensional.
Come to class with an idea for the best use of your time. The more specific it is, the better. Everyone who enrolls for this workshop will receive a confirmation email with homework for day one: the homework will involve doing some brainstorming in search of a character that you can't wait to work on
November 21st 1pm to 3pm Heather Harpham ~ CONTACTING the INNER CREATIVE Action Theater Improvisation Workshop: This two hour workshop will combine the kinesthetic excitement of dance with the emotive and communicative nature of acting. Action Theater Improvisation creates opportunities for bringing our most playful, spontaneously intelligent and even fierce sides alive on stage, or in the studio. This workshop offers participants a glimpse into the mindful practice of improvisation as they've never known it including a vivid articulation of the body, emotional versatility, and ready access to imaginative impulses. As a group, we'll play together, and as individuals we'll gain greater access to our imaginations and a wider expressive range. All levels of theatrical experience welcome!
