DSLR Techniques: Basics to Advanced
A workshop for shooting cinematic images for micro budget cinema and documentaries with DSLRs

The DSLR Movement

What makes the DSLR such a compelling camera for those of us on micro-budgets? A brief history of the DSLR movement.

The advantages: An overview of sensors and lenses and the differences of prosumer video cameras.

The disadvantage: Overcoming audio issues.

About the Workshop

This workshop, by Kurt Lancaster, the author of "DSLR Cinema: Crafting the Film Look with Video," will cover these main topics:

- The importance of the story: Story structure is tool number one.
- Basics of the DSLR: Aperture, shutter speed, color balance
- The importance of the image: Shaping a compelling story, visually. What is the difference between just shooting video and shooting video cinematically? How can you produce good looking shots with a $600 camera? Using picture styles.
- The importance of sound: How important is sound? How can you record audio that's good enough for professional use?
- The kind of gear you need and how to use what you already have to effectively shoot professional-quality video.
