Ten Tiny Dances Times Two (and a half!)
The Dance Complex enters into the Fall 2015 season of dance with a repeat of a very BIG hit from last season: TEN TINY DANCES- and we multiply it to get TEN TINY DANCES TIMES TWO (and a half!) by presenting two shows along with a reception that represents the half!
Complete with a new roster of short (5 minutes max!) performances confined to a tiny (4 feet by 4 feet!) stage, we will take to performance with multiple combinations of great guest and resident artists in 2 sets of ten tiny dances.
An experiment in confined space, Ten Tiny Dances is a performance series dedicated to fostering inventive dance/performance art and providing an accessible performance experience. For both performer and audience- who surround the stage within an arm's reach of the dancers - the usual expectations are interrupted: new perspectives on how to see a dance, as well as how to perform a dance, abound. Originally devised and performed in Portland, WA, versions of Ten Tiny Dances have been performed worldwide since the concept's inception in 2002.
Making their gigantic collective presence on our tiny stage during TEN TINY DANCES TIMES TWO (and a half!) include Yenkuei Chuang, Jennifer Lin, Betsy Miller, Jillian Grunnah/SPUNKandCOmpany Dance, Jody Weber/Weber Dance, Lipstick Criminals, McKersin/Present-Day Dance Theatre, and Stephen Ursprung/Reject Dance Theatre with The Dance Complex's 2015 cohort of CATALYST artists - Chavi Bansal/Vimoksha, Callie Chapman/Zoe Dance Company, Sarah Mae Gibbons, Kat Nasti/Kat Nasti Dance, Michael Figueroa/Michael Figueroa Ruckus Dance, taking the stage as well. Casts may rotate each night.
Rounding out the performances will be a welcoming to the season at The Dance Complex, hosted by Executive Director Peter DiMuro and The Board of The Dance Complex. Surprise announcements and celebrations will ensue. This reception will be free to ticket holders of either night's performances; others for a suggested donation minimum of $5, to support the Dance Building Building Dance campaign, a fundraising initiative this fall/winter at The Dance Complex. The reception will be held on Saturday, September 27 at 7pm, just prior to Saturday's 8pm performance of Ten Tiny Dances.
