CPS SATELLITE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE TOUR ADAPTIVE REUSE OF A MID-CENTURY FORMER SCHOOL
CUPPA Alumni Association members and current students are invited to go on a field trip to Chicago Public Schools' new satellite administrative office in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. The former Dodge Elementary School was one of the casualties of the mass school closings of 2013. As part of the reduced space at CPS headquarters, leadership decided to reclaim this completely unused asset for some overflow administrative functions. The Department of Facilities jumped on the opportunity to remake the space into a modern, collaborative space that takes advantage of the building's existing features. The result was the adaptive reuse of a mid-century school building to an open office space that has become the envy of the system's administrative employees. They even kept the school gym so employees can exercise during breaks!
We will tour the building and have the opportunity to talk to Rada Doytcheva the interiors architect who redesigned the space to be collaborative and take advantage of the natural light. We will also speak with Jonathan Fine with the CPS Dept. of Facilities and former Executive Director of Preservation Chicago. Jonathan will bring a unique perspective on ways to reuse a variety of old buildings.
After the tour we are only a short mile away from Goose Island's new tap room on Fulton Market where we can grab a quick pint and talk with new friends.
