This will be the Caffè Lena debut of this singer-songwriter Bob Dylan named as among the best of his generation. Jesse Winchester's numerous hit singles contain the elements of what's become known as "Americana" detailed, empathetic stories of everyday people set to a blend of folk, country, bluegrass, blues and gospel instrumentation. Born in the USA, Jesse departed for Canada after receiving his draft notice during the Vietnam era. He developed his music career there, finally returning to perform in his homeland after receiving amnesty from President Carter in 1977. Winchester is now repatriated, living in Virginia, and has released his first CD since 1999, Love Filling Station. It offers nine characteristically top-flight originals and three beautifully interpreted covers. It also highlights his graceful, soulful singing--a light, southern, tenor drawl wrapped warmly around country, bluegrass and folk arrangements.
We're so excited to be seeing Jesse again! Saw him a few years back @ The Egg, and he was just wonderful. I've been a fan since ... well, since that first album, with the cover that looked like a Matthew Brady photograph. His manner is so engaging, his lyrics sometimes playful, sometimes terribly sad; but that this gentleman of leisure is heading up here again has made my day!
