Jeremy Essig at Brennans
Jeremy Essig will be recording his new CD "Exile on Hitt Street" at Brennan's Wine and Tobacco in St. Louis. Everyone who purchases a ticket from Brown Paper Tickets will receive a free copy of the CD when it's released in late March. These online tickets are discounted over the day of the show prices.
About the show:
Over-educated and under-employed, Jeremy Essig has been developing a loyal comedy following across the country over the last decade. Upon graduating from Wake Forest University in the spring of 2000, Essig chose open-mic nights over graduate school, a perhaps likely outcome for a Midwesterner who came of age during the slacker revolution of the early 90's.
A decade later, Jeremy Essig has developed an act that was described by Nuvo Magazine as "Intelligent Cynicism." The act is a mixture of stories stemming from Essig's real-life experiences mixed with social and pop culture commentary. Jeremy has appeared multiple times on the nationally syndicated Bob and Tom Show as well as released three CD's which have received airplay on XM/Sirius Radio. He also appeared in the 2003 Boston Comedy Festival and was featured in St. Louis Magazine as a comic to watch.
In 2008, Jeremy was admitted to the University of Missouri's journalism program, and began working as a statehouse reporter and editor in Jefferson City. He also began cutting his touring schedule down in preparation for an eventual move to Washington D.C. after graduation.
Essig's plans slow down his touring schedule would be rendered moot as the opportunity to open multiple shows for Brian Posehn presented itself during the first month of graduate school. From these shows, Essig found his love for comedy re-ignited, and threw himself once again into writing new material. The combination of extensive touring and divorce in late 2010 would put an end to his studies. Emotionally raw, Essig found comfort and solstice in the darkness of a comedy stage, and would eventually discontinue his studies in early 2011.
From these turbulent four years, Essig has developed a more personal style, evidenced in his new stories and insights that will be recorded for his fourth CD "Exile on Hitt Street," an homage to his residence while living in Columbia, MO. This recording will take place February 10-11 at Brennan's Wine and Tobacco in St. Louis. A more intimate venue, Essig chose Brennan's in the hopes that the venue's size will provide a different sound than his previous albums.
