AMAZING GRACE is based on the true story of William Wilberforce played by Ioan Gruffudd, a member of Parliament, from the early 19th century, whose most significant contribution to the world was his 20-year fight to abolish the British slave trade, which he won in 1807 with the help and support of John Newton (the author of the Amazing Grace hymn) - played by Albert Finney and William Pitt the Younger, Englands youngest Prime Minister. Wilberforce persevered another 26 years until legislation to abolish slavery in the British colonies was granted just three days before his death in 1833. The movie also stars Michael Gambon, and Senegalese recording artist Youssou N'Dour.
