Ten Rivers Food Web will be hosting Sea to Table: a dinner celebrating Oregon's sustainable fisheries on February 26th from 5pm to 8pm at Linn-Benton Community College. Highlighting the magnificent sustainable seafood and produce available during Oregon's winter months, chefs Matt Bennett of Sybaris Bistro in Albany and Rob Pounding of Blackfish Café in Lincoln City (both featured chefs at the prestigious James Beard House in New York) are teaming up to support low-income access to healthy, locally grown food.
For 2012, Ten Rivers Food Web is focusing on bringing more seafood from Oregon's Coast to the Willamette Valley. This dinner hopes to promote and build greater awareness about Oregon's amazing seafood as guests learn about sustainable seafood from the fishermen who supplied the ingredients for the meal.
The event will feature live music from Sweet Papa Lowdown, wine from Marks Ridge Winery and beer from Calapooia Brewing Company. The menu will highlight crab provided by the Oregon Crab Commission, Rockfish from Ocean Bleu at Ginos, Shrimp provided by the Oregon Trawl Commission, and Oysters from Oregon Oyster Farms. Springhill Organic Farm and Persephone Farm will supply the fabulous, organically grown, winter produce for the meal. Vegetarian entrées will be available.
This benefit dinner will support the That's My Farmer SNAP Incentive Program, a partnership between Ten Rivers Food Web and farmers' markets in Linn, Benton, and Lincoln counties. That's My Farmer helps make local, nutritious food more affordable for low-income consumers while also supporting Oregon's small farms. The number of households in Oregon relying on the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly the food stamp program, has increased by 68% since the beginning of the recession. When customers use their SNAP benefits at participating farmers' markets, with a minimum purchase of $6 they receive an additional $6 in That's My Farmer tokens. Proceeds from the dinner will fund this incentive.
Tickets are $49 and can be purchased online: For more information please contact Katy Giombolini at katy@tenriversfoodweb.org or call 541-602-7278.
