The Last Night of Ballyhoo
The Seattle Jewish Theater Company presents "The Last Night of Ballyhoo," the Tony-award winning Broadway romantic comedy drama written by Alfred Uhry, author of Driving Miss Daisy, and directed by Art Feinglass who brought The Last Seder to Temple Beth Am last March. The play will be performed in the modern 300-seat University Prep theater, next door to Temple Beth Am.
Set in Atlanta in 1939, the play takes place in the home of a Jewish ("all the way back, on both sides") family as Gone with the Wind comes to town for its world premiere. Hitler has invaded Poland but the biggest concern of the Freitag family is who is going to Ballyhoo, a lavish ball for southern Jewish socialites.
"Uhry's achingly beautiful play is luminous and powerful." Los Angeles Times
"A delightful comedy freighted with an uncomfortable message." New York Post
Sponsored by Temple Beth Am.
