| Description |
Come participate in an interactive symposium that, with the generous support of the Fannie Mae Foundation, will bring together groups from across King County to discuss in practical, hands-on terms, how to create permanent housing and integrate that housing with appropriate services.
The symposium will be based on the actual programs and experiences of faith communities and service organizations in King County, and will be taught by the people who are actually implementing those programs. The presentations will contain useful templates for all sizes and scopes of endeavors, from actions as simple as generating rent and damage deposits (often the last barrier for a family leaving homelessness) through opening landlord doors with special guaranties, to the leasing, purchase or construction of physical housing units. Each attendee will go home with a resource book that can be an ongoing reference manual as each group explores its options.
Each attendee will be able to participate in two seminars chosen from the following:
-Help the Homeless Afford Housing -Create Your Own Non-Profit for Housing -Buy a House, House a Family -Do-It-Yourself or Partner with a Provider? -Turn that Parking Lot/Parsonage into Affordable Housing -What Everyone Needs to Know About People Without Homes
Speakers at Saturdays symposium include Rev. Stephen Sundborg, S.J. (President of Seattle University), and Christine VanderWerf. The First African American Methodist Episcopal Gospel Choir will provide entertainment. Sponsoring Organizations: Federal Home Loan Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae) United Way of King County The Committee to End Homelessness City of Seattle City of Bellevue Eastside Human Services Forum The Church Council of Greater Seattle King County Department of Community and Human Services
