Heart and Soul is a combined project between Theatrix Youtheatre Society and the SFU LEAD program. Theatrix Youtheatre Society is a registered non-profit organization with Revenue Canada Charitable Tax Status (BPN 892834185).
Funding cuts from the gaming commission have made it difficult for Theatrix to continue serving the community as it has in the past. Without support and sponsorship from local commerce and community, Theatrix will not be able to provide its programs and mentorship anymore. This will impact a large, growing community of young people.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary as the first, and one of the most successful youth theatre companies, Theatrix is the only award winning non-profit performing arts organization in the Tri-Cities, whose alumni have gone on to work in film and TV, the PNE Talent Search, and Canadian Idol. Such alumni include Pat Milino and Corbin Vander Zalm (PNE Talent Search Winners). Theatrix has produced over 70 shows with hundreds of children ages 3 to adult since 1991. Funded by donations, grants, gaming revenue, ticket sales and registration fees; our mandate is to make the arts accessible to all children regardless of family income. Theatrix currently subsidizes over $25,000 per year in fees for low income families. We take part in community events such as the Tri-City Olympic Torch Relay, Blue Mountain Arts Festival, Austin Heights BIA Christmas Caroling, Golden Spike Festival, Canada Day Festival, MADD Awareness, Rotary International Fundraisers, and Light Up the Lake Festival.
Theatrix has received awards from Arts Connect, Society for Community Development and Theatre BC.
