If I Were You - Project Israel

If I Were You is a long-term international outreach project that enlists the personal experiences and voices of global citizens to illuminate how dance can connect us to our shared humanity. This humanitarian peace effort, lead by Casey Lee Thorne and the artistic collaborators of Inside Out Contemporary Ballet, offers a community centered approach to the creation and performance of original contemporary ballet works, ultimately promoting mutual-understanding and cross-cultural exchange.

Throughout Artistic Director Casey Lee Thorne's Fulbright Fellowship to Israel 2014-2015, she conducted free community outreach workshops throughout Israel and Occupied Palestine to examine the role of dance in self-discovery and community-building. At the end of each workshop, participants were asked to write reflections about what dancing connects them to. These written reflections will be used to craft a large scale set installation that will encompass our performance space. Audience members will be allowed to walk into our performance spaces and interact with the set design and read these reflections before and after the show, giving them an opportunity to meet foreign citizens through the lens of dance.

If I Were You - Project Israel will feature an original score by composer Ben Juodvalkis along with sounds from the Middle East, a large-scale set installation by Lisa Boling Huntsman, and a contemporary ballet choreographed by Casey Lee Thorne. IOCB anticipates that this piece will challenge and simultaneously affirm its belief that dance exposes what is most personal to us as well as most universal.

Tickets are available at the door on the day of the show. CASH AND CHECK ONLY.

Non DUC Students/Seniors Tickets available at the door for $15.00. Must have ID.

Admission is FREE for Dominican University of CA students, and tickets are offered at a discounted rate of $10.00 for DUC Faculty and Staff. These tickets must be purchased at the door.
