Mobilis in Mobili
Wooster Street Social Club and ModVic, LLC are pleased to announce that due to the success of Mobilis in Mobili at Wooster Street Social Club we have extended the run of the exhibition by two more weeks. Mobilis in Mobili will be on view at the tattoo studio and gallery space until February 3rd, 2012. The exhibition features work from over twenty-five artists who work exclusively to develop a range of artistic innovations based in nostalgic aesthetics. Their creations are inspired by Victorian aesthetics and craftsmanship, which incorporate authentic vintage and salvage components with modern functioning devices. The exhibition show cases a broad spectrum of Steampunk art and appliance ranging from drawings and paintings to Steampunk Couture, guitars and bicycles, curious timepieces, functional sculptures, and moving gear desks. These whimsical assemblages fused with a innovative approach to engineering inspire a sense of historic intrigue, as though you have been transported in time, yet maintain a firm stand in contemporary culture. We will be celebrating the success of Mobilis in Mobili with another Steampunk infused reception on Saturday, January 7th, 2012, from 8pm-12am. The evening will include entertainment by Steampunk band The Rose West, a jazz performance by singer Katrina Rae Cunningham, and a four-part burlesque performance organized by the NY Pin-Up Club. There will also be a roving fashion show featuring Steampunk Couture with designs by Karen Von Oppen. In addition, libations will be offered by way of a four-hour open bar with mixology generously provided by The Way Station.
