Alan Morinis - Everyday Holiness: The Jewish Spiritual Path of Mussar
This delightfully-illustrated book addresses the eighteen soul traits found in traditional Mussar teachings including humility, patience, gratitude, compassion, and order. Alan Morinis, director and founder of the Mussar Institute, summarizes the practice of Mussar as "tikkun ha'middot ha'nafesh--improving or remedying the traits of the soul." His explanations are clear and concise, but also entertaining, using colorful Talmudic tales to educate us in the ways of Jewish spirituality so we can reinvigorate our religious life, exploring contemplative spirituality, or simply making spirituality a stronger presence in everyday life. Author of CLIMBING JACOB'S LADDER: ONE MAN'S REDISCOVERY OF JEWISH SPIRITUAL TRADITION, Morinis is a filmmaker, anthropologist, student of spiritual traditions, and an active interpreter of the teachings and practices of the Mussar tradition. Arrive at 7:30 PM and enjoy the music of guitarist, Marc Garvin. Morinis will be a special guest at the JCC Patrons of the Arts brunch on Sunday, October 28.
