Monica Pasqual and the Handsome Brunettes: Garden Concert!
Join us for a backyard under the stars evening of music with Monica Pasqual and the Handsome Brunettes.
Monica is the winner of 6 Independent Music Awards and Six Emmy Awards. Her song 'Bird in Hand' charted on both Americana and Roots Radio and was among the top 10 Folk Radio songs for 2011. Her music and songs have been used on numerous network television shows and she has composed soundtracks for PBS, The History Channel and National Geographic Television.
Pasqual may already be familiar to some locals as part of popular Bay Area band, Blame Sally. After 15 years of playing, recording and touring, Blame Sally decided it was time to take a break from touring. The last thing that pianist and songwriter Monica Pasqual expected was to find herself spearheading a new project, but then she met a young cellist named Josh McClain and found the prospect somewhat irresistible.
A recent transplant from the greater Chicago area, Josh McClain "wields his cello like a post-impressionists brush". Together Pasqual and McClain create a big, emotionally complex sound, rich in dynamics and moving easily from quiet fragility to unrestrained propulsion. Monica's lyrics run the gambit from intense introspection to incisive social commentary, from lush romanticism to clear-eyed scrutiny.
Blame Sally's fiery percussionist, Pam Delgado, rounds the sound out adding rhythm, color and gorgeous harmonies.
