Emmanuel was born disabled. In Ghana, like much of the developing world, being disabled is believed to be a curse and infants are often left to die, or are hidden away. They are expected to become beggars if they grow up. Rarely are they seen as having valuable potential to be developed.
After bicycling the length of Ghana with one leg, Emmanuel has gone on to become a global inspiration and advocate for all persons everywhere who dare to dream beyond any limiting circumstances.
A note from Cory Ybarra, Founder of Building for Generations: The year 2005, I was asked by the Tanzanian community of persons with disabilities and their families for help to build a school. I wrestled with the inner resistance of "I don't know how and I've never done this before" over the course of several months upon my return. I clearly felt unqualified but even clearer I felt called. It was during that time that I received a copy of Emmanuel's Gift. His message to humanity to act from a place of heart, risk and trust, left me walking away saying "I can" and then "I did" and then WE (a team) did even more. It is my dream to bring his timeless message to others, whatever their dream.
