ATL Collective & Serenbe present Paul Simon's Graceland
The ATL Collective is a collaborative of local musicians covering a classic album from start to finish to create a night of music and storytelling.
Paul Simon's 1986 groundbreaking, game-changing Graceland, an album that hardly needs description for even at the mention of its name, we hear the hits. "The Mississippi Delta is shining like a National guitar." You bet it is. And we have one of our finest lineups to date to bring you back under the African skies.
The ATL Collective creates musical events that seek to replicate the intimate experience of listening to an album for the first time, going track by track, reading through the liner notes and turning over the record, truly enjoying the music for what it is, without distractions. Each month, the ATL Collective picks a classic album and collectively covers the track list in sequence - many times completing the event with themed refreshments for attendees. Previous albums have included The Beatles' Abbey Road, The Clash's London Calling, Neil Young's Harvest Moon, Van Morrison's Tupelo Honey and the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds, to name a few.
Delicious menu-themed items will be served up by local food trucks, Yumbii and Happy Belly.
Equally delicious album-themed cocktails will be served up by our sponsor, Old 4th Distillery.
THE ART FARM AT SERENBE:
Serenbe was designed with the arts in mind, including The Art Farm, a 40-acre complex that serves as the central place for artists, the arts and culture at Serenbe. The aspiration is to convene and house multiple artists at a time, and The Art Farm is a response to this need and creates an essential physical place for the arts at Serenbe.
The Art Farm is collaborating with Rural Studio to construct the first wave of live-work artist cottages. Rural Studio is an off-campus design- build program of Auburn University, established in 1993 by D.K. Ruth and Samuel Mockbee to give architecture students a hands-on educational experience. The artist cottages are based on Rural Studio's 20K House project that began in 2005 as a research project to address the need for affordable housing, provide an alternative to the mobile home and accommodate potential homeowners who are unable to qualify for commercial credit.
