Join us to hear superbly talented author/illustrator Gianna Marino introduce us to her newest picture book, Night Animals, which gently teaches that there is no reason to fear the natural noises of nighttime. In a starred review Kirkus Reviews says * "Every page is visually funny, with hilarious close-ups and slapstick animal posturesA giggle-inducing new gem for the night-fears bookshelf."
Night Animals begins when skunk asks Possum why he's hiding, setting off a chain reaction of animals scared of sounds in teh night. Even wold and Bear are sure something's out there. "What is that something?" asks Bat. "Night Animals!" reply the animals. "But you ARE night animals," states Bat. When the group of nervous nocturnall animals sheepishly realizes they've been running away from each other, giggles ensue!
Marino deftly uses an all-black background for these worried animals' wanderings, visually preparing young ones for the dark of bed time. As School Library Journal points out, ""A good title to share with children who may be afraid of the dark to help them see the lighter side of fear."
The event is free - please register today.
