Description
JUANA is an opera in development by Composer, Carla Lucero and Author, Alicia Gaspar de Alba. This showcase of excerpts will be presented on, October 12 & 13 at Theater Artaud at 8:00 p.m.  JUANA is based on the life of Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, a 17th century Mexican nun, who is widely recognized as the first great poet of the Americas.  She suffered at the hands of the Spanish Iquisition because of her feminist writings and her love for another woman.  JUANA stars Martha Rodriguez-Salazar and Elena Krell, along with eight other incredible singers.  Music Direction by Ron Valentino and Stage Direction by Tracy Ward.  Produced by Valentin Aguirre.  JUANA is a production of Tenth Muse Presents.

Tenth Muse Presents is an organization where women artists develop, produce and perform original art exploring feminist and queer themes.  Tenth Muse Presents' mission is to present art and build community through community education and artist development by and for women, with a focus on presenting and promoting works created by women of color and lesbians.  Founded by opera composer, Carla Lucero in 1998, Tenth Muse Presents brings together the composer, opera singers, classical musicians and artists in other disciplines.  Our organization has attracted a wide range of talented artists, experienced staff and volunteers in the United states and in countries throughout the world.  The impact of our mission is demonstrated in the increased local and international exposure Tenth Muse provides for women artists who focus on feminist themes.
