Three Metre Day live at Kuumbwa Jazz
"Very close to roots perfection." The Musical View
Three Metre Day is an original, Canadian roots music trio whose members include violinist Hugh Marsh, Don Rooke and Michelle Willis. Hugh has recorded and toured extensively with Bruce Cockburn, Loreena McKennitt, Jon Hassell, Don Byron, and Mercan Dede as well as played on the soundtracks to countless Hollywood films. Don Rooke is a lap-style slide guitarist who leads cult Toronto band The Henrys. He has recorded with Mary Margaret O'Hara, Cowboy Junkies, Sylvia Tyson, Gordie Sampson, and for movies and TV. Finally there is Michelle Willis, whose singing and portable pump organ playing are the cornerstone of this original, popular band.
It is rare to see three musicians who demonstrate such command of their instruments in one group; rarer still to hear them devoting their sounds to the making of such beautiful, uncommonly organic music. Touring to promote their new CD Coasting Notes, Three Metre Day is making a first-time appearance in the Bay area, and will finish their tour with a final concert at Santa Cruz' remarkable Kuumbwa Jazz Center.
Doors open Sunday Nov 6 at 7pm. General Admission Seating. Show starts 7:30pm
