George Cole Quintet
George Cole - composer, arranger, lead guitar, vocals; Mary Jenson, vocals, Jimmy Grant - rhythm guitar; Christopher Bastian - upright bass; Tony Ballog, violin
The George Cole Quintet style has been dubbed "Eurocana", a celebration of the great American songbook inspired by the dynamic string-driven swing created by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli in 1930s Paris. In addition to new material, they will be playing from their CD Riverside Drive (Pete Douglas' current favorite fun CD) which captures the essence of classic Thirties tunes but maintains a modern sensibility.
George Cole has toured with Joe Walsh, recorded with producer Roy Thomas Baker (Queen and Paul McCartney), performed with Warren Zevon, Buster Poindexter, and played guitar and sang duets with jazz legend Keely Smith. He recorded on Chris Isaak's platinum selling Forever Blue Album and won a California Music Award for Best New Major Label Artist. George has dazzled audiences at musical landmarks from Carnegie Hall in New York to the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley.
