Nono Muchmore Warp(ed) Festival
James Chapel, Union Theological Seminary. New York, NY
Program (times are approximate): 700 PM: Pat Muchmore premiere of pieces exploring fractal structures and multiple musical languages, as well as the spaces where classical and quantum mechanics intersect. 815 PM: Richard Warp will premiere selected works from "Illustrations" - an album loosely based on themes found in Ray Bradbury's 1951 book of short stories "The Illustrated Man". 930 PM: Violinist Miranda Cuckson and sound artist Christopher Burns perform Luigi Nono's ambitious work "La lontananza nostalgica utopica futura". Involving elements of spatialization, theater, vocalization and improvisation, the piece presents the fluctuating dynamic between a wandering violinist and the surrounding world, evoked in 8-track electronics played by the sound artist in real-time dialogue with the performer.
