OPERA CAFE- Arabian Qawha
Columbia City Theater Seattle, WA
Timeless Columbia City Theater will host OPERA CAFE, presenting the first of four shows dedicated to the history of coffee. It is called Arabian Qahwa. The show features soprano Alicia Murillo with pianist Alex Chadsey and is directed & produced by Eduardo Khawam. In the shows powerful opening, Alicia appears in her costume made of coffee beans singing the aria, Casta Diva by Bellini. Murillo will also sing Coffee Cantata written by J.S. Bach, in which a daughter begs her father, Lovelier than a thousand kisses, sweeter far than muscatel wine! I must have my coffee, and if anyone wishes to please me, let him present me with- coffee!
Each of the four events will highlight: Opera, World Music, Copla, Jazz, puppets and more. The shows features compositions by Bellini, Rossini, Mozart, Bach, Quintero, Kander, and Weill
Note: According to folklore an Ethiopian goatherd named Kaldi discovered the joys of coffee when his goats ate the berries and became so frisky that they "danced." Kaldi soon joined them.
