Endre Hegedus Piano Recital: "The Tender Chopin and the Fireworks Liszt"

Endre Hegedűs,is a distinguished Hungarian Steinway Artist from Budapest, Hungary. He was a soloist with the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra and has won prizes at ten international piano competitions. Endre won second prize at the Athenaeum International Piano Competition in Athens in 1978 and similarly at the competition of the Scala in Milan in 1980. No first prize was given on either occasion. He was prizewinner in Monza in 1981 and at the International Rachmaninov Piano Competition of Morcone in 1987. Endre has had more than 2300 appearances. In his 25-year career as a pianist he has recorded 24 CDs, Hungarian and Japanese television channels have broadcast 19 hours of live recordings from his concerts and he regularly tours Europe, the Far East, and North America.

In 1999, the Steinway Center New York conferred on him the title "Steinway Artist". That same year he was chosen in England among the best 300 active pianists in the world. In 2000 he was awarded the prestigious Franz Liszt Prize and both the György Cziffra and the Liszt Millennial Plaque. In 2002 he was granted the Pro Urbe distinction by his hometown and also received the Culture 22 Prize. Last year the President of Hungary presented him with a Presidential Medal. For his 50th birthday, Harmat publishing house published a book about the artist "Hegedűs a zongoránál", with interviews by Andrea Ferenczi. Currently he teaches chamber music at the Teacher Training Department of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music. Mr. Hegedűs speaks fluent English, German, Italian and Japanese.

His distinctions include, among many, the LISZT-PRIZE, the GYÖRGY CZIFFRA and the LISZT CENTENARY COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL (2000) and the MEDAL FOR MERIT OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE HUNGARIAN REPUBLIC (2004). Endre has taught piano and chamber music at the Budapest Academy of Music since 1999. He speaks English, German, Italian and Japanese and teaches in both in Hungary and abroad.

A father of three, Endre and his wife Katalin Hegedűs give concerts in Hungary and worldwide of piano four hands and duets.
