Ear Heart Music presents: William Frampton
William Frampton
The works of György Kurtág and György Ligeti for solo viola are pillars of the modern repertoire. These composers were born in the 1920's mere miles from each other in Romania, both to Hungarian families. Each composer drew inspiration from Hungarian and Romanian folk music for these works, but they each possess highly individual voices that both point ahead to the future and back in history, toward the great masters. The Kurtág movements will be interspersed with movements of Bach's solo works for cello and violin. The final movement of Ligeti's Sonate, "Chaconne chromatique", will be followed by one of the earliest known pieces for a solo string instrument - Biber's Passacaglia.
