Global Rhythms: Seattle Chinese Orchestra

The 50-member Seattle Chinese Orchestra is the only traditional Chinese orchestra in the Pacific Northwest, with a rich and versatile repertoire that includes traditional Chinese music, Chinese regional and folk music, music by contemporary Chinese composers, and music from other parts of the world rearranged for Chinese instruments. The forefather of SCO was a Chinese folk music ensemble founded by musician Warren Chang, who now serves as music director; Roger Nelson conducts the orchestra, which includes bow-stringed instruments, plucked instruments, woodwind instruments, and percussion.
