Urban Food Forests for Urban Food Deserts
Growing Food, Building Communities, and Healing the Earth
Imagine walking through a forest where almost everything around you is food! You see and taste fruits of various kinds, nuts are swelling on branches, berries ripen on bushes, and even the forest floor is covered with edible greens, shoots, roots, and flowers. Then imagine emerging from this forest feeling nourished by the food and the atmosphere, right onto a city street!
This vision of a rarely experienced reality is completely within your and our grasp. This talk and slide show introduces the vision of forest gardening with some scientific background, a few living examples, and a sampling of some useful perennial edibles you can use in your own community. It also lays out some specific ways that the ecology of forests and forest gardens can teach us how we might redesign our society to create healthy, vibrant communities by recognizing the strengths and value of each unique person and linking us together into a functional whole.
You can come to this evening experience by itself, or take the follow-up one-day workshop too!
Doors open at 6:30pm
Evening Talk: 7-9pm
Suggested Donation $5-10 to help cover cost. No one turned away, come one come all! Hosted by Theresa Kennedy of "The Green Bottom Line" Radio Show.
Sponsored by Green and Healthy Communities, CDC of Nashville, a partner of the Urban League of Middle TN.
