Hilarious and heartwarming, David Pokorny's Based on a True Story tells the all-true-tale of how the hardest-working comic in show business fell in love, started a family, traded in the comedy circuit for a career teaching Traffic Schooland along the way discovered a few funny things about the DMV, diapers, speed limits, children, traffic cops, stand-up comics, the perfect one-liner . . . and the meaning of life!
As a young comic, David Pokorny did everything an ambitious and energetic comedian is supposed to do. Putting hundreds of thousands of miles on his Subaru Justine, Pokorny traveled from state to state, appearing in a different hole-in-the-wall comedy club every week. Beginning as an opening act, eventually earning his way up to headliner status, he befriended some of the biggest names in comedy, eventually acquiring the reputation as one of the hardest working guys in the business. But all along, Pokorny knew something was missing.
In this lyrically written, amiably performed monologue, Pokorny describes how his wife and kids and friendsand an unexpected tragedy within his familytaught him to find joy in his everyday experience . . . and that a born comic can always find ways to make others laugh, no matter where his life may take him.
