Urban Food Forests Workshop
Scholarships are now available!! Email info@ghccdc.org if you are in need of a scholarship to attend this workshop!
Healthy forests maintain, fertilize, and renew themselves, naturally. If we are smart about it, we can create abundant food-producing ecosystems that do the same things in our own yards and gardens, even in cities, indeed even on rooftops!
Edible forest gardens mimic the structure and function of natural forests and grow food, fuel, fiber, fodder, fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, and fun. Forest gardening can also heal our planet by regenerating the health of our local ecosystems, and they can teach us how to build healthy human communities and economies.
This one-day workshop will provide a taste of what all this means and how it works so you can begin in your own yard and neighborhood. This special workshop will provide experiential exercises to give you a whole-body understanding of the principles involved and a practical process for how to create a garden of your own. We'll also ponder and discuss the larger implications of what we learn for our communities and our society.
Dave Jacke, primary author of Edible Forest Gardens, the definitive two-volume work on food forestry, will introduce the subject for urban settings in this empowering, interactive all-day Saturday workshop. The Friday evening talk, Urban Food Forest for Urban Food Deserts, is an essential part of this workshop, and is included in the workshop fee. Please make sure to attend both!
Hosted by Theresa Kennedy, MBA, LEED GA the Green and Healthy Communities Radio Show. Catch Dave Jacke on our next airing Saturday 9/17 at 8am.
Sponsored by Green and Healthy Communities, CDC of Nashville in partnership with the Urban League of Middle TN.
