Event
North America Now
Two of Chicago's most dynamic theatre companies, Teatro Luna and Bailiwick Chicago, have come together to produce a very special evening of art and social conversation designed to explore the state of North America and the border relations between Canada, the United States and Mexico on the 10th Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. This multi-faceted cultural event starts with a Town Hall forum with local politicians, cultural leaders, and television personalities with creative performances and visual art woven into the conversation throughout the evening. Including never-before-seen performances of Teatro Luna and Bailiwick Chicago's upcoming world premiere play, THE NORTH/SOUTH PLAYS. The event will culminate with a cocktail hour and sampling of North American cuisines and spirits from Mexico including Mezcal from Chicago's own Los Mezcaleros and fine wine from Canada. In partnership with the Consulado General de Mexico en Chicago, the Consulate General of Canada and the Instituto Cervantes, the conversation on North America and 9/11 will feature NBC's own 5-time Emmy ward winning journalist and Canadian Native, Marcus Riley; Allert Brown-Gort, Associate Director of the Institute for Latino Studies at the University of Notre Dame, WBEZ's own Alison Cuddy (Eight Forty-Eight), acclaimed Latino stand-up comedian, Mikey-O as well as other exciting panel guests to-be-announced. This evening will be moderated by Third-Generation, Mexican-American Chicagoans and Chicago Urban Arts Society co-founders, Lauren Pacheco and Peter Kepha.
The evening will all be tied together with some of Chicago's most inspiring Canadian and Latino art forms including selections from the World Premiere THE NORTH/SOUTH PLAYS, music from rising Canadian native Adam Fallon (http://www.myspace.com/adamfallon) and Mexican artists Paloma Martinez-Cruz with Gary Janota, with visual art from Mexican-American artist Eric Garcia (http://www.southvalleyart.com/eric/gallery/).
