Les Délices: Age of Indulgence
"The Age of Indulgence" recreates the opulent sound world of a 1750s Paris salon - including four works never before heard in Ohio. These works revel in the decadence of the era while at the same time espousing Enlightenment values individuality, originality, and experimentation. This is music whose harmonic and technical virtuosity pushes boundaries and yields expressive extremes. Ohio premieres include two quartets from François-André Philidor's 1755 L'art de la modulation, selections from Antoine Dauvergne's Concerts de simphonies (1751), and Jean-Joseph Cassanea de Mondonville's Op. 3 no. 1 sonata (1749). Rameau's beloved Pièces de Clavecin en concert no. 3 completes the program.
Pre-concert lectures begin a half-hour before the concert and will highlight the significance of these works within their composers' social and cultural milieu.
Featuring: Scott Metcalfe & Julie Andrijkeski, baroque violin Debra Nagy, baroque oboe Emily Walhout, viola da gamba Michael Sponseller, harpsichord
