Red Yarn's Deep Woods Revival
Austin Scottish Rite Theater is proud to present Red Yarn Productions, a folk music and puppetry company based in Portland, Oregon. Andy Furgeson creates musical puppet shows, educational programs and accessible media for kids and families.
Red Yarn is a dynamic family performer who weaves folksongs and puppetry into engaging shows for all ages. With his energetic performances and lush folk-rock recordings, this red-bearded bard shares positive values while reinvigorating American folklore for younger generations.
Red Yarn released his debut album, The Deep Woods, in October 2013, introducing himself as a singular artist with a profound reverence for the folk tradition. These animal folksong adaptations garnered high praise among "kindie" critics, including a #3 spot on Zooglobble's Top 20 Kids Albums of 2014.
Red Yarn now brings songs fro his second album, "Deep Woods Revival," to Austin Scottish Rite Theater. He delves deeper into the American folk canon, weaving an original narrative and lyrics into traditional animal folksongs. Deep Woods Revival is a lush and lively folk-rock song cycle about childhood freedom and discovery in the wilderness.
Austin Scottish Rite Theater, built in 1871, is Austin's oldest and dearest venue for kids and grown-ups. Free parking while it lasts, and kids get the best seats in the house--sitting on the carpet close to the stage!
