The Cowards Choir w/ Jason Myles Goss & Annie Stokes
THE COWARDS CHOIR will be returning to IOTA Club & Cafe on July 19 with some very special guests.

JASON MYLES GOSS

A native of Hopedale, MA, Jason Myles Goss has been recording since 2003 when he released his first album Long Way Down and was selected as a finalist in the first ever Newport Folk Festival Songwriters' Contest. He was twenty one and the youngest finalist by over ten years.

Since then, he has spent his time touring across the country and releasing subsequent albums on his own dime before settling down long enough to make Radio Dial, his fourth independent record and first self-produced effort.

Outfitted with a formidable band featuring: Austin Nevins on guitar (Josh Ritter, Anais Mitchell), Sam Kassirer on keyboards (Josh Ritter, Joe Pug), David Dawda on bass (Adam Levy, Ravens and Chimes), and Joel Arnow on drums (Tao Seeger Band, Julian Velard), work on Radio Dial began in the Spring of 2011 at Vanity Sound in Brooklyn, NY, with the completed album released in June the following year.

Here, in his latest collection of songs, Jason displays a broad range of influences, from the stark and eclipsing lyricism of Gillian Welch and A. A. Bondy, to the lush, melody-driven, pop/rock ambitions of Ryan Adams' "Gold" and The Wallflowers' "Bringing Down the Horse."

With a hard-worn, no-shortcuts work ethic, and with years of touring behind him, Jason has continued to find a way, building a steady following, one song, one show, and one fan at a time, and becoming one of the most buzzed-about artists in both the New York City and Boston music scenes.

In the past few years alone, he has been selected as a three-time regional finalist in the Mountain Stage New Song Contest (2010, 2011 and 2012), and his song Twilight Serenade, from his second album, Another Ghost, has become a fixture on Pandora and XM satellite radio, as well as one of the top 100 most downloaded songs for singer-songwriters on iTunes in 2010.

He has also shared the stage with some of the finest songwriters and performers working today, such as: Lori Mckenna, Anais Mitchell, Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers, Mary Gauthier, Duncan Sheik, Ellis Paul, Peter Mulvey, Slaid Cleaves, and Martha Wainwright.

When not touring, Jason resides in Brooklyn, NY, where he spends his time eating sandwiches and taking his dog to the park.

ANNIE STOKES

Annie Stokes is an indie-folk musician from Virginia. Raised in the nation's capital on an eclectic mixture of musical theater, bluegrass, and classic Americana, her music is a fusion of city sounds and country soul. Although playing guitar only began as a hobby, soon her hometown was buzzing about "that girl who sounds like Jewel."

Accompanying herself on guitar and ukulele, and with a talented band of players backing her up, Annie's extensive performance background includes street fairs, cafes, vineyards, bars, breweries, nightclubs, indie music festivals, and most recently the Sylvan Theater Stage on the National Mall. She has also had the distinct pleasure of opening up for The Hunts, Elliot BROOD, Callaghan, Marie Digby, and Paul Pfau. She released her first EP, Ponygirl, in December 2014, and is currently working on her first full length album with Blue Hippo Records.
