Description
MAR 27 - APR 13 2008  The Student Gypsy (1963) Music, Book, and Lyrics by RICK BESOYANA follow-up to Besoyans smash-hit operetta-spoof LITTLE MARY SUNSHINE, THE STUDENT GYPSY is a wacky hybrid: a Romberg-esque operetta crossed with a zany Marx Brothers farce. In turn-of-the-century Singspielia, Merry May Glockenspiel, a charming but myopic young woman, takes up with a band of gypsies in her search for romance. Her mentor, Zampa the Gypsy Queen, has a dark secret involving the true identity of the Prince of neighboring Liederkranz.  And what of the strange Elsie Umlaut who shows up to dispense cheese at inappropriate times? Songs include Romance, Ting-a-Ling Dearie, My Gypsy of Love, and Seventh Heaven Waltz.
