Dakota's Belly, Wyoming
A lively interlude set in the American West, in the manner of Sam Shepherd's early short plays. Dakota has just finished birthing a cow when her brother, Vern, arrives at her trailer; he and his wife Trixie have split up, and the play unfolds around the quirky, sexy and tangled relationship between the three characters.
This play is the flagship production of Toy Boat Theatre Company. Born as a summer collaboration between local theatre practitioners, Dr. Marilyn Bennett and Jen Davis, Toy Boat Theatre is made possible through a grant from Spaceworks Tacoma and support from the University of Puget Sound Department of Theatre Arts.
We favor unpretentious yet literate plays which make an honest emotional connection, neither pander nor pontificate, and hold up as the central focus of a production. Emphasis: great acting in a humble house.
