TAAC Spring's Awakening
The Alternative Arts Collective presents Frank Wedekind's dark comedy Spring's Awakening. The play tells the story of a group of pubescent schoolmates trying to understand the many manifestations of their sexuality while simultaneously living up to their parents' and society's expectations. With scant or confusing information from adults, the tragedies pile up.
Written in 1891, Spring's Awakening did not receive it's first performance until 1906 (directed by the legendary Max Reinhardt)and has been banned and censored at various times ever since. It was the inspiration for the Tony-award winning Broadway musical. TAAC is presenting an original English adaptation by director Richard Spierto and the cast of Spring's Awakening which does not censor the show, but does make it accessible and contemporary. The cast features some of the best actors in the region.
