Beautiful Struggle (Baker & Tarpaga Dance Project)
"They make you want to move, twitch your hips, dance as freely as if no one were around to see." -Neal Buccino, The Press, Atlantic City, New Jersey

Beautiful Struggle is a new contemporary physical dance theatre piece from Baker & Tarpaga Dance Project that blends live music (guitar, kora, drums), postmodern dance, hip hop and contemporary African dance. This intriguing work explores the intersection of race, gender, class and nationality and like much of contemporary dance today uses media images to explore powerful ideas.

Baker & Tarpaga Dance Project brings an international collective of dance performers, visual artists, and composers to their weeklong residency at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater. Their Friday, July 15 performance is part of the Celebrate East Liberty Summer Series at the theater. Baker & Tarpaga Dance Project will perform Beautiful Struggle at the 2011 Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival on July 20.
